Even without any upgrades, a standard metal garage is an extremely useful, versatile building. These types of structures are great for parking, storage, working on projects, and much more. If you don’t yet have a metal garage on your property, adding one soon can open up many possibilities.
But why stop with a standard metal garage? If you are going to have a garage constructed on your property, you might as well take the time to include some upgrades that will make it even more useful. Of course, by working with American Carports, Inc., these upgrades will be easy and affordable. You can use our Build & Price tool to see what’s possible, and you can always contact us if you have any questions about which upgrades are possible for your carport.
Don’t Overlook Windows
Adding windows to your metal garage is one of the biggest improvements you can make to your enjoyment of the space. With the ability to open a window, you’ll be able to let in some breeze on a warm day to cool down the garage. This is a great feature if you plan to use your garage as a workshop.
Also, windows let in natural light which allows you to use the garage day in and day out. Even if you add some lights to the inside of the garage, letting in natural light from one or two windows will make visibility even better during the day.
Finally, getting airflow is always a good idea, especially if you plan to use it as a workshop where you run the risk of producing odors or fumes, such as painting. Windows are an affordable and easy addition when you work with American Carports, Inc., and you should strongly consider them when planning the design of your carport.
Roll-Up Garage Door
Sure, you could build a metal garage that only has walk-in doors, but such a design would dramatically reduce the usefulness of the space. With garage doors for metal buildings, you’ll be able to bring in large equipment, park inside the garage, and much more. As you plan your carport, think strategically about where these doors should be located and how big they should be.
Concrete Floor Sealant
If you have a concrete floor, it can wear down over time from everyday use. By coating your concrete floor in a coating, it can protect it from moisture, and creates a resistant layer against chemicals. This is perfect if you use your carport for auto maintenance or other projects that require the use of chemicals. Concrete floor coating not only provides protection, but it also adds a beautiful finish to the floor. You can upgrade your work space as well as your carport’s appearance.
Additional Covered Space
Metal garages are enclosed structures, but the four walls of the building don’t have to be the end of the story. You can also consider adding a lean-to to the side of the garage for some extra covered space that is not inside the garage itself. This added space can be used for many things, including the following:
- More comfortable entry and exit. If you add a lean-to over the walk-in door, you’ll be able to get in and out of the garage without immediately confronting the elements. On a rainy day, you’ll be able to get out the door, bundle up, and head for your car. Likewise, when snow moves in, it won’t pile up by the door, making it easier to use the building.
- Outdoor storage. A lean-to space attached to your garage makes for a good spot to place items that need to be somewhat protected from the elements, but don’t need to take up valuable indoor space.
- Parking. When designed properly, you may be able to park under your lean-to, providing you with quick and easy access to the garage itself. This is an effective strategy when you are using the garage for projects or storage so there is no room inside for parking vehicles.
