Single, Double, or Triple

April 23, 2019/in A-Frame Horizontal, ACI, Blog, Carports, Custom, Garage, Informative, Questions, Standard, Steel Structures /by clickgiant

Buying a carport can be as easy as counting one, two, three, or like we would say here at American Carports, single, double, or triple. Deciding on the best option that will fit your needs can sometimes be difficult, with American Steel Carports you shouldn’t have to struggle, we have professionals that can assist you through the whole process, from start to finish. Picking the right carport is perhaps the most important decision you will make in the entire buying process.

The first thing you need to decide when buying a metal carport is how the carport will be used. Consider how much space you’ll need to properly protect your belongings from all the different weather conditions the world can throw your way. It’s always better to have extra space rather than not enough. Also, it’s good to be sure to think about the future, maybe you plan to acquire additional vehicles that may need some extra storage.

Single Carports – Single carports range from 12 feet wide and are ideal for most single vehicles. A factor you might want to put in mind is height, our standard height is 6 feet which might be just enough for some cars. However, if you’re planning to use a single carport to store a larger vehicle like an SUV, trailer, RV, or even a motorhome, you may want to go up a size as it may be difficult to maneuver a large vehicle into a tight space.

Double Carports – Double carports range anywhere from 18 to 24 feet wide. Of course, a two-car carport is for storing two cars or a larger recreational vehicle or boat. As many vehicles might differ in size, it’s always best to make sure you measure the vehicle to be sure when getting your carport. After all it’s going to be way cheaper getting it right the first time.

Triple Carports – Triple carports generally range from 26 to 30 feet wide and provide just enough space for storing up to three vehicles. When you work with American Steel Carports, you can certainly opt for structures even bigger than that if you’d like more space!

It might seem complicated or even stressful, but here at American Steel we’ve made it easy for all our customers. You can use our online Build & Price Tool, you will be able to adjust the dimensions of your desired building, select your preferred add-ons, view a 3-D rendering of your creation, and get an instant quote right there and then.

April 22, 2019/in ACI, Blog, Buildings, Carports, Custom, Customer Builds, Garage, Informative /by clickgiant

What is a Lean-to?

Were you looking for a building that can not only meet your carport needs but also can be used as a garage. This sort of structure has it’s own genuine name because of the fact that it is one of our clients top choices. The name of this type of building is a Lean-to building. A Lean-to can be described as a structure that slopes off to one direction. It has a fully enclosed part from the building and an open area. It provides you with the best of both worlds between a carport and a garage. Another more affordable choice is a utility, but their is a difference between these two. The difference between a Lean-to and a utility is how they are priced. The utility carport is priced as one building while a Lean-to building is charged as two separate units. They are very identical but the preference is yours!

Not only are they built your way but they are also built to fit your needs. These buildings can serve numerous of your purposes, starting from just protecting your car as to making it a party room or even a local for your business.

The size of this building can definitely accommodate to almost anything you can think of, and the open space is open for any possibility. To top it off ! Keep in mind that all our buildings are engineer-certified and guaranteed to stand strong against according to your specified weather.

Carport vs Garage

April 15, 2019/in ACI, Blog, Buildings, Carports, Custom, Garage, Informative, News, Our Specialty, Product Reviews, Promotions, Questions, Standard, Steel Structures, Uncategorized /by clickgiant

If you’re only worried about sun, hail, or snow ruining your car’s paint job, a simple carport can do the job perfectly, but a garage can do a lot more. The full coverage is great for keeping your tools and other things safe as well. Both carports and garages come with benefits as well as disadvantages, and in the end the decision is all yours!

    Carports

A carport is a fully-open or semi-covered steel structure that attaches to your home or stands freely anywhere on your property. The number one reason to choose a carport instead of a garage is that it’s the more affordable way to protect your vehicles. But just because a carport is less expensive than a garage doesn’t mean it can’t look amazing, especially here with American Carports. We have a variety of details you can customize for your building, so you can make sure that your carport suits you perfectly. Other advantages that a carport has that a garage wouldn’t would be that they are much quicker and easier to build.

Parking your car in a carport will keep weather conditions from destroying its paint so quickly, and can also save it from blowing tree branches and hail during bad storms. The roof of a carport will also intercept falling tree sap.

A carport also has some disadvantages. An open structure like a carport isn’t very secure. A carport can’t protect your vehicles from animals or people, so all your belongings might be at risk for damage. Also, you can’t be completely protected from wind, rain and sun rays.

     Garages

Unlike a carport, a garage is a completely enclosed structure with walls, roofing, and an entrance that can be closed. A garage offers you more coverage, concealment, and protection for your vehicles, boats, or materials. Because a garage has four walls, it provides complete protection from sun, hail, rain and wind. Plus, it keeps animals out. With good door locks, your garage will be a secure place to store not only your cars but household overflow, tools and lawn equipment.

If your family grows and you need the space for an extra room, you might be able to convert your garage into “livable” space in the future. You can buy all kinds of shelves, cabinets, drawers and hooks designed specifically for garages, which typically are large enough for your parked cars plus some work and storage space.

The main disadvantage with a garage is the price, but with all the protection provided, it really might be worth it. Another disadvantage can be getting the permit for your unit. Since the building is fully enclosed, it requires more safety necessities. For that reason you would have to check with your city’s permits office for all of the rules and regulations.

Considering these differences, it’s really up to you to decide what you’re looking for. Hopefully we’ve helped you decide. You can definitely get started by calling today to speak with one of our sales representatives for a FREE quote! We will work with you until we find the perfect metal building for your needs. And we can always provide a free sketch along with your quote to help you visualize your project to the fullest. Don’t forget to ask about our financing options. We are now offering rent-to-own in all our service areas.

Short Blog: Some Easy Maintenance Ideas

February 14, 2019/in ACI, Blog, Customer Builds, Informative, Lifestyle, Questions, Steel Structures /by clickgiant

We are all aware of the superiority of steel over wood structures, and this includes ease of maintenance. However, there are still some easy and quick things you can do to keep your steel structure in the best shape.

  • The first thing we recommend is to keep a maintenance log to stay on top of all the maintenance you’ve done and when.
  • The easiest place to start is with a basic wash, especially when the weather conditions change. Whether its leaves being blown around or dirt from nearby country roads, a quick power wash will return your American Carports’ structure to like-new.
  • Overhead doors also need attention, so remember to wash them too. Using a light degreaser can help cut through any dirt that has accumulated.
  • Dusting the roof with a soft bristle broom to remove debris is recommended. Please be sure to take every safety precaution to not put anyone in danger while doing so.
  • Periodically check that all screws are tightened and have not come loose. Using a lubricant product on all moving parts, doors and windows are highly recommended to maintain the like-new look and function.

We hope these tips are helpful and will assist you in enjoying your American Carports metal building for years to come.

Endless Ways to Customize Your Metal Building

January 22, 2019/in ACI, Blog, Informative, Lifestyle, Steel Structures /by clickgiant

Whether you’re looking for a simple carport/garage, a warehouse, or a completely custom metal building, American Carports will make the metal structure of your dreams come true! With more than 20 years of service in the carport industry, we know exactly how to give our customers a pleasant experience.

Any side of your carport can be customized. Whether you want some extra space between the legs, to make it taller than 12’, or an additional lean-to, we cover it all!

Headers:

One of the most common customizations is our headers. Headers can increase the spacing in between the legs and function as actual openings. Some of our customers who opt to enclose their metal buildings prefer to have openings instead of actual garage doors.

13’ or taller:

Our standard, triple wide, and widespan flyers normally only go up to 12’ tall, but that doesn’t mean we’ll limit ourselves. In fact, the tallest we can go is 20’. We might not build skyscrapers, but we can make your structure tall enough to hold your trailers or any toys you want to protect.

Lean-Tos or Connections:

When people hear the word “lean-to,” they automatically picture an agricultural barn with lean-tos on each side, which are also called wings. Lean-tos can be added to most of our buildings as additional storage space or as carports for parking your vehicles.

What about if you have two buildings and you just want to connect them? American  Carports can connect your buildings as well!

Different Pitches:

Yes, we offer different angles or pitches for our metal buildings! All of our buildings come with a 3/12 roof pitch, but we can go as low as 2/12 or as high as 8/12 (depending on the unit).

If you are considering making any of these customizations, don’t be afraid to let us know. We will work with you until we can make the building you’re looking for. Aside from that, don’t forget that American Carports makes sure that your building is certified by the best engineers. And don’t forget to ask for our financing options!

Standard vs. Triple Wide vs. Wide Span

December 18, 2018/in ACI, Blog, Informative, Steel Structures /by clickgiant

A metal building will always be a metal building, no matter what – aside from all of the customization we offer, such as enclosing your carport.

A metal carport is the main foundation of your metal garage. If you really think about it, the base and the roof are what make it a metal carport, so all we are doing is enclosing your carport and adding the openings or frame outs for the roll-up door that you want. The same goes for our agricultural buildings. The center unit is a metal carport, which is just adjacent to the lean-tos (also called wings); from then on, we just enclose the sides or ends according to your special needs. Interesting, isn’t it? However, the size of the structure is what will categorize your metal building or metal carport as a standard, triple wide, or wide span unit.

Standard Units

The confusion starts when the word “standard” comes in to play. On one of our metal buildings, this mostly refers to a particular roof style. It’s called standard because this roof option is included in the base price, unlike our other roof styles, which come with an additional price. However, in the carport industry vocabulary, “standard” is also a categorization of all metal units ranging from 12’ to 24’ in width. You might be thinking, aren’t your units categorized as carports or garages? Yes, technically – but that’s after the product is completed, and those subcategories are mainly just options. Another point to add is that there is no such thing as a limitation when it comes to length for standard units. Even a 12’ wide building can be 100’ long! But when it comes to height, there are a few restrictions that will apply. For example, the leg height of your metal building cannot exceed the width (e.g., 12’W x 31’L x 14’H). Why? Because your building will NOT be stable.

Triple Wide Units

This type of metal building ranges from 26’ to 30’ in width. These are big buildings that are typically used casually for workshops. Because of the size, is recommended to opt for our 12-gauge galvanized tubing (a.k.a. heavy duty). Aside from their size, these metal units still follow the same procedure and customization options regarding roof style, vertical sides or ends, roll-up doors, openings, and being installed on the ground or a concrete slab. As mention earlier, triple wide units don’t have a limit when it comes to length, and since the width starts at 26’, there are no restrictions when it comes to leg height taller than 12’. This type of building might be the one for you if you’re looking for something big, but also affordable without limitations. However, when it comes to even bigger units, things do change – which brings us to our last topic.

Wide Span Units

Now we’re talking about some big, big units. This type of huge metal unit ranges from 32’ to 80’ in width! Yes, we’re talking warehouse size! Let’s leave the size comparison to the side for a moment, shall we? The first thing you will notice about these big metal units is the siding. ALL of our wide span units run fully vertical, which means that they don’t allow a standard roof or horizontal siding. Another big change that you will notice is that our wide span units MUST be installed on concrete pads, concrete footings, or concrete piers. This is due to the size and weight of the unit. If this kind of metal unit is installed on the ground, due to the weight on all of its components, it will sink and won’t be sturdy. If you want to read a complete description of wide span units for more information, click here.

Now you know the difference between our categories of metal buildings. We hope this has enlightened you. If this definitely changed your mind and helped you figure out exactly what you want for your property, feel free to contact us today and let one of our sales representatives assist you with any questions or concerns!

Generic vs. Specific Plans & Calculations:

December 11, 2018/in ACI, Blog, Informative, Lifestyle, Steel Structures /by clickgiant

So you’ve decided on the perfect carport/metal building and you’re ready to place an order. What should you do next? American Steel Carports recommends that ALL customers or future customers get familiar with their city codes. You wouldn’t want to install a building only to have it tagged for noncompliance or for not pulling a permit. Although not all cities and counties require permitting, you should always check to be 100% sure that your building will be allowed. Sometimes the requirements are simple (being a certain distance from a fence or a certain size). Some permitting could require you to meet wind or snow loads, though.

The following will explain the types of plans/drawings that some counties or cities might require before installation:

  • Generic Plans are available for certain areas and certain sizes of buildings (ask your sales rep. to see if your building qualifies) at no additional cost. Generic plans are specific to width size only and will not state the name or address of the installation. These plans can be requested after the order is placed and take 7-10 business days to be sent out AFTER the order is received.
  • Site-Specific Plans are made per order at an additional cost. These plans include the name and address of installation for your future building as well as snow and wind requirements and info on how the material is installed and its construction elements. Specific plans must be paid for when the order is placed. They take between 10-14 business days to be sent out AFTER the order is received. Specific plans can be requested (but are not always required) with our Calculations, which also come at an additional cost. Calculations include the stress and strains or forces and displacements of your metal structure. Specific plans can be requested on their own, but Calculations can only be requested as an addition to Specific Plans.

Make sure you ask for or purchase the correct set when placing your order.
