Guatemala Volcano EruptionJune 8, 2018/in Blog, News/Press /by clickgiant

American Steel Carports would like to let those affected by the recent Volcano of Fire in Guatemala, know that our thoughts and prayers are with them. Our deepest condolences are with the victims and their families.

As most of you may know, the Volcano of Fire erupted on June 3, 2018. This has been one of the most powerful eruptions since 1974. The mud flow, and super heated debris switched directions after its eruptions and made its way down the mountain striking many small villages along its path. Many villagers were taken by surprise or simply didn’t have enough time to make it out of its path. Volcanic ash covered the skies as far as Guatemala City forcing the closure of La Aurora International Airport. 109 people have been confirmed dead, 200 missing and hundreds more were reported injured.

We would also like to recognize Shiner’s Hospital in Galveston, TX who have stepped in to treat 6 children who were badly burnt in the volcanic eruption and for all the hospitals on standby ready to take in more patients. Don’t forget to help our brothers in Guatemala.

4 Major Steel Carport Maintenance TipsJune 5, 2018/in Blog, News/Press, Product Reviews, Questions /by clickgiant

Steel buildings are extremely durable making them well worth the money.

Whether you are using one as a place to store farming equipment or as a place to store your cars, a steel building can hold up to just about anything. Especially when it is made with high-quality steel like at American Carports.

Although our steel building is practically low-maintenance and can last for a long time, there are some things you can do to keep your steel carport, barn or shed looking like new.

Check Periodically

Your steel building probably gets a lot of use. Since the structure is outdoors, a lot of times things may happen to it and can easily go unnoticed if not inspected. As a good rule of thumb, it is a good idea to check it periodically for damage, rust, and dents. You should make it a habit to check your steel storage unit at least twice a year. However, if you live in an area that sees a lot of bad weather from hail, tornadoes, or even snow storms, it is best that you check your unit more frequently.

Do Minor Repairs

After you have done your bi-yearly inspection of your steel unit, if you by chance find any damages, be sure to handle those as soon as possible. You would be surprised how much additional damage can take place from one small hole in your structure’s roof. Something so minor can allow rodents to get in or can allow the elements to penetrate your unit. By promptly taking care of any damage, big or small, you can stop further damage before it has time to develop.

Clean Frequently

Just like you home, your steel carport, barn, workshop, garage, or custom building needs a little maintenance which includes spot cleaning and deep cleaning. Spot cleaning your unit when you have a spill is important, but you must not forget deep cleaning as well. Deep cleaning your unit with cleaning products allow you to get rid of any mold or fungus that could easily set up shop in your structure. Since steel is extremely durable, using soap, water, bleach, and maybe even a power washer can be very beneficial in keeping your steel unit like new.

Watch Out for Water

One thing you need to remember about steel is that no matter how heavy duty it is, is still not good for your unit. Water is like steel’s kryptonite, so you need to try your best to watch out for it. Large areas of water near or beside your steel unit can cause it to rust which will lead to structural damage. To prevent this from happening, try adding gutters or downspouts to deter water away from your building.

If you want to make your steel building last for years and years to come, keep these simple yet key maintenance tips in mind.

Mini-StoragesJune 5, 2018/in Blog, News/Press, Questions /by clickgiant

Whether you need a small storage room for your belongings or simply think that mini-storages are adorable, they’re a great addition to your property. And when it comes to protection, they offer the best—just like one of our steel buildings, but in a reduced size.

If you’re interested in acquiring a mini-storage unit, there is certain important information for you to consider:

• Mini-storage units come as a kit.

• The base price includes the fully enclosed building with a framed finished floor made of ¾” pressure-treated wood. It also comes with a walk-in door or 6’ x 6’ roll-up door, depending on the size of the mini-storage.

• No mini-storage unit can exceed 7’ in height.

• The sizes on the flyer are the only sizes of mini-storage we offer. If you’re looking for something longer, wider, or taller, then it must be priced out of the regular flyers.

• We have different options for you to customize your mini-storage, such as windows, porches with railings, gable ends, etc.

• Mini-storage units are priced as 14-gauge, but they can always be upgraded to 12-gauge for an additional cost.

• Plans and calculations are available at an additional charge. Generics are not available.

Have questions? Speak with one of representatives for more information. Remember that we can always provide you with a FREE quote. Want to see more designs? Click here to take a look at some examples of the mini-storages we’ve built recently.

So Many Different Options for you to Customize your Metal BuildingMay 31, 2018/in Blog, News/Press, Promotions, Questions /by clickgiant

Whether you’re looking for a simple carport/garage, a warehouse, or a completely custom metal building, American Carports will make the metal structure of your dreams come true! With more than 20 years of service in the carport industry, we know exactly how to give our customers a pleasant experience.

Any side of your carport can be customized. Whether you want some extra space between the legs, or to make it taller than 12’, or an additional lean-to, we cover it all!

Headers:

One of the most common customizations is our headers. Headers can increase the spacing in between the legs and function as actual openings. Some of our customers who opt to enclose their metal buildings prefer to have openings instead of actual garage doors.

13’ or taller:

Our standard, triple wide, and widespan flyers normally only go up to 12’ tall, but that doesn’t mean we’ll limit ourselves. In fact, the tallest we can go is 20’. We might not build skyscrapers, but we can make your structure tall enough for all your machinery equipment that you want to protect.

Lean-Tos or Connections:

When people hear the word “lean-to,” they automatically picture an agricultural barn with lean-tos on each side, which are also called wings. Lean-tos can be added to most of our buildings as additional storage space or as carports for parking your vehicles.

What about if you have two buildings and you just want to connect them? American Carports can connect your buildings as well! Here are a few examples of connected buildings:

Different Pitches:

Yes, we offer different angles or pitches for our metal buildings! All of our buildings come with a 3/12 roof pitch, but we can go as low as 2/12 or as high as 8/12 (depending on the unit).

If you are considering making any of these customizations, don’t be afraid to let us know. We will work with you until we can make the building you’re looking for. Aside from that, don’t forget that American Carports makes sure that your building is certified by the best engineers. And don’t forget to ask for our financing options!

A-Frame Horizontal Roof vs. A-Frame Vertical RoofMay 29, 2018/in Blog, News/Press, Questions /by clickgiant

There are many options on how to customize a carport or metal building. Roof styles being one of those options. Although the following two that we’re about to mention are not the only options available, they are our most popular options. They are also hard to choose from unless you fully understand the orientation and reasoning behind the price difference.

The A-Frame Horizontal Roof (Boxed-Eave) is popular due to its residential style look. The ridges on the roof run front to back in sync with the roof line. This style is commonly used in areas that do not have much snow or rain fall but are not limited to those area. The panels run horizontally, so the unit requires a little maintenance to keep debris from piling up along the ridges.

The A-Frame Vertical Roof is our upgraded roof option. The ridges on this roof style run top to bottom from the peak down to the eaves. This option is popular in regions with heavy snow and rainfall. The direction of the panels makes it easy for debris to run off smoothly. This style of roof is the most expensive due to the extra material and reinforcement required for installation. Although this roof style is popular in areas with lots of snow and rain, many customers across the country still opt for his option due to the easy maintenance, sturdiness and look.

30 x 41 x 12 – 3-Bay Metal Garage

May 23, 2018/in A-Frame Vertical, ACI, Blog, Buildings, Custom, Garage, Informative, News/Press, Our Specialty, Product Reviews, Steel Structures /by clickgiant

If you have multiple vehicles at your house, it may be a little challenging to get every single one protected from the weather, especially if the only garage you have is the one attached to your house. Moving the other cars just to get one out can be quite annoying, too, especially if you’re in a hurry or the weather isn’t cooperating.

This scenario happens pretty often. That’s why American Carports encourages you to acquire a 3-bay metal garage for your vehicles. The big advantage of having your garage doors on the side of the building, instead of the end, is that expanding in length is not as expensive as expanding in width. End walls are pricier due to the material needed. With your garage doors on the side, your cars will be just as secure, and at a lower cost.

Check out this 30’W x 41’L x 12’H 3-bay metal garage:

  • A-Frame Vertical Roof
  • Horizontal Sides & Ends
  • 3 – 10’x10′ Roll-Up Doors
  • 36″x80″ Walk-In Door

You can always come up with your own designs as well. Also, remember that we can always adjust the length, width, and height of any metal building according to your needs. Doors sizes can always be changed as well. All the pictures we’ve shown, are just live examples of designs and styles that our customers opt for according to their specifications and tastes.

If you have a project in mind, or you’re looking to get a quote, give us a call! Let one of your experts assist you with any questions you may have. Don’t forget to ask about our financing options.

Things to Consider When Buying a CarportMay 21, 2018/in ACI, Blog, News/Press, Questions /by clickgiant

Since their initial appearance back in the early 1900’s, carports have had a substantial high demand in the market. Because the industry has grown more complex, consumers have to put more thought into what unit to choose and who they are buying from. From car coverage and protection to workshop areas, the uses of these metal buildings are limitless. However, there are a few things  you should consider before buying a carport, from quality to the work ethic of the business. The process of purchasing a product should run smoothly and be an excellent experience from the sale representatives and the manufacturer to the customer service and installation process. We want you to be satisfied with your decision. That’s why we’ve created a list of important things to consider when buying a carport. Read below for some food for thought.

Top Factors to Reflect Upon

• You must decide if you want to purchase your building from a local or online dealer. Many of our  clients buy our carports from local dealerships where they’re surrounded by one or more of our demo displays, thus giving them a personal glimpse.

• Take note on what you are looking for. Perhaps you simply need space to park your car or need a larger building to store large capacity vehicles. We offer different roof styles such as an A-Frame Vertical Roof, A-Frame Horizontal Roof, and a standard roof that will better suit your needs and satisfactions. Our knowledged staff can give you suggestions if you have any doubts regarding your choices.

• Prior to choosing a carport location, check your local code specifications. It is important to consider your area’s building permit laws: you may need one to have a building on your property. You should also make sure, before installation, that the flooring is prepared ‒ whether it’d be concrete, asphalt, or plain ground. The geographic of your structure location should be leveled.

• Consider investing in any additional add-ons. We offer skylights that allow the sun to shine through your structure, dismissing the hassle of electric costs and light installation. Depending on the flooring we also provide concrete, asphalt, or mobile home anchors for extra reinforcement that will maintain your carport secure.

We aim to keep our clients satisfied before, during, and after installation day. If you order a product from our company, you will receive engineered certified steel structures with free shipping and installation. With these services we include you won’t have to worry about transportation or construction issues. Our buildings will last for years, so we know you need a company who will be there for you and support the product you purchased, and who will stand behind it. This is what sets us different from the rest. Choose your carport manufacturer wisely, choose American Carports, Inc.

Call today for a free quote. We’d be more than happy to assist you.

Storm-Proof Your Belongings with A Steel StructureMay 17, 2018/in ACI, Blog, Customer Builds, News/Press, Questions /by clickgiant

Whether you’re facing the rains and winds of El Nino, you’re situated along the West Coast in the path of a hurricane, a steel structure, such as an aluminum shed, may be the best option for protecting your belongings.

Although events like El Nino, hurricanes, and tornadoes are random as far as when and how often they might occur, cost-effective steel structures are an excellent option for protection during sunny weather or hurricane-force winds.

It’s Easier to Protect Than Replace

When it comes to ensuring your home, family, and possessions are protected, it’s much easier to build for the “just in case” eventuality of a terrible, windy storm than to assume “well, it could never happen to me.” If you choose to build the cheapest metal structure you can to save money, you won’t just have to replace the building when it’s torn apart by a weather event, you’ll have to replace everything in it.

The loss of your possessions or equipment will require money, and there’s no guarantee that everything you lose will be replaceable, or that you will be able to rely on your insurance policy to replace everything. Most insurance policies come with deductibles anyway, so you’ll still have money going out the door to fix or replace items and repair the destruction.

Increasing the Strength of Your Steel Structure

From metal barns to garage sheds made of steel, the strength and protection of your structure not only protects against terrible weather and wind, but it also helps provide protection during heavy snowfall and persistent rain. Many types of steel structures will withstand virtually any normal windstorm, and there’s also the option to upgrade to a certified structure.

A certified structure is braced and anchored to the ground and can be upgraded to withstand 130 MPH winds, as well as a significant amount of snow. You may even choose to upgrade your steel structure to withstand an incredible 155 MPH and additional snow load.

Can Metal Buildings Truly Withstand Hurricanes?

The force of a hurricane often leaves a path of flattened debris and destruction behind it, and it’s not uncommon to see swaths of bare ground dotting the landscape after the departure of a hurricane. Similar scenes result when a tornado rips through the area and decimates homes, farms, and businesses.

You might wonder whether a metal carport or a garage shed made of steel can withstand a hurricane, but time has shown that structures made of steel are often the only things standing after hurricane-force winds come through the area. Companies like American Carports, Inc. that specialize in metal structures can provide buildings that are engineered to meet the demands of a specific weather event.

Hurricanes receive their classification label based upon their sustained wind speeds, and meteorologists will refer to these levels as the “Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.” Any hurricane that reaches a category 3 or higher can rip apart many traditional buildings and wreak havoc on buildings like residential homes.

A hurricane that reaches Category 3 will have winds between 111 and 129 miles per hour, but a category 5 can actually reach wind speeds of more than 157 MPH. Steel structures are excellent for protecting your vehicles, equipment, and possessions against the ferocity of a hurricane’s winds.

Site readiness is an essential part of installation. Per company policy, we require that the site of installation for any carport or metal building be completely level or have a slope of no greater that 3”. Our group of installers can refuse to install on unlevel ground if an issue arises.

Utility/Power Lines:

American Steel Carports also recommends that utility lines be marked to ensure that we do not damage your property. We are not liable for damage on unmarked utility lines. Also, to ensure the safety of our installers, we do not install buildings within 10’ of active power lines.

Utility gas line flag

Concrete Slab:

Concrete is a customer’s responsibility and must be level and a minimum of 4” thick, with a 12” x 12” footer and a minimum of 3” or more all the way around so that we can avoid chipping the edge of the slab. (Specs could change based on building size and local codes.) Please contact us if you choose to go with a flush slab. Concrete must cure for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to installation. You can purchase plans for concrete after the order is placed. A full concrete slab is not necessary for all buildings. Please contact us for more options.

Gravel:

When pouring gravel, make sure it is level and compact, and don’t forget to add an extra amount of gravel around the perimeter of the unit to avoid erosion.

Worker leveling a metal screed board to gravel surface

Space for Installation:

We also require a minimum of 2’ of room around the area of installation. If you feel that a fence, tree, home, bush, etc. could interfere with the installation, we recommend letting your sales person know before placing the order so that the order isn’t rejected later in the scheduling process or on the day of installation.

Installing Over Objects:

If you need our crews to install over any object, we MUST have a picture on file with the dimensions. Some objects may require an extra labor fee. Please let your sales person know when placing your order or make sure to let your secretary know so that she can verify if a labor fee will be needed.

Site Modifications:

If you need to make site modifications, make sure you call 811 before you dig or visit http://call811.com/before-you-dig for information on your power/utility lines. Contacting 811 can help you avoid injury and the added expense of something going wrong.
